Starr building

Starr School was named in honor of Dorothy Starr.  She was a dedicated and highly respected teacher. She had taught at Heaton School and at Malloch School before passing away from cancer in 1973. In 1974, the school was dedicated to Dorothy Starr, an educator who devoted her life to ensuring all children she came in contact with got the best education possible.

Starr School opened in the spring of 1974. It was established to ease the burden of the over-crowded conditions at Malloch School. Malloch was on double sessions at this time. Temporary structures were moved in from the old Emerson School. Emerson had been located at Santa Clara and “K” streets, and it was then discontinued.

The permanent structure was occupied in the Fall of 1980.
